Description
Budapest locals are spoiled for choice. Besides the city’s always bustling spots, we can easily reach places to cool down, too. One of the great escape options is this lovely wine region just 40 minutes drive away, called Etyek-Buda.
Etyek is a tiny village right at the foot of Buda hills with 120 family-run wineries. Thanks to diligent German and Serbian settlers, wine production was revived in the 1700’s. Some cute, traditional houses and big wine cellars built in those days can still be seen in the village. Due to its sunny but windy climate and limestone-rich, fertile soils, Etyek has similar characteristics as the Champagne region of France. Therefore this region is a paradise for refreshing, high-acidity white wine and sparkling wine lovers, just like us.
